The 21st International Day of Dali University was officially opened on December 3 in west Yunnan’s Dali Bai autonomous prefecture.

With theme of “civilisation, exchange and mutual learning”, the event was attended by scholars and experts from 12 countries including China, the United States, Switzerland, Greece, the Netherlands, Myanmar and Japan.
At the event opening, Guo Qinghua, director of the Institute of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System of Peking University spoke highly of west Yunnan’s biodiversity and geographical advantages, hoping scholars to contribute to the ecological studies and sustainable development of this region.
Li Tao, secretary of the CPC Dali University Committee, said that the event aims to increase friendship and share education experience, enlightening the younger generation and promoting communication between China and the world.

The opening also witnessed the establishment of the Alliance of English Teachers and Pre-service English Teachers Education in Western Yunnan, where guests unveiled the alliance plaque and presented it to its members.
The alliance is jointly initiated by Dali University and the University of Warwick, aiming to improve the professional competence and teaching standards of English teachers in Western Yunnan.
In the subsequent main forum, a number of experts and scholars conducted in-depth discussions on ecological protection, challenges and opportunities in the era of big data, biodiversity and other topics.
The Alliance of English Teachers and Pre-service English Teachers Education in Western Yunnan is unveiled at the opening.
Three sub-forums were concurrently held to discuss the topics of China-South and Southeast Asia transport networks, exchanges and mutual understanding of civilisations, area and country studies, talent cultivation and remote sensing applications.
Since its inception in 2002, the International Day has become a prominent cultural brand of Dali University, and with an attendance of 200 scholars, this year’s event is the largest over the years.
